THE KICKSTARTER WAS A SUCCESS!
Kamala recently lost both legs to diabetes and, subsequently, was no longer able to work. Kenny Casanova, a wrestling manager who played Kamala’s mysterious handler “Kim Chee” on a number of occasions in the Northeast, had an idea. After hearing about Kamala’s plight, he figured Kamala’s Life in book form could be one answer to Kamala’s lost earnings.
Kenny set out to help Kamala make a book that fans would really want to read – and buy. He interviewed Kamala for about six months and also interviewed a huge number of wrestlers that Kamala had worked with. From these interviews, Kenny got the book together and put it up on Kickstarter to get it printed. Using Kickstarter as a means to collect pre-sales, along with some really great reward incentives, fans really came out to make this very different book a fundraising reality for a wrestling legend that had met hard times. It is my pleasure to report that we raised $17,500, which was $5,500 over goal! Then, the book went into its first printing the end of December 2014.
HELP FROM ALL WALKS OF WRESTLING
The response has been heart-warming to see all the contributions from the many wrestlers coming together for this project. Seven forewords came in for the book. Rather than trying to figure out which to use, we decided to just give you them all! These in-depth passages are original works just for Kamala Speaks written by: Jim Ross, Mick Foley, Insane Clown Posse’s Violent J, Jerry Jarrett, Chavo Guerrero, Bill Watts, & Koko B Ware. There are also never seen before pictures taken by Jim Cornette!
THERE ARE EVEN MORE QUOTES & CONTENT BY TOP NAMES INCLUDING:
Jake Roberts, Hacksaw Duggan, Kevin Sullivan, Bruce Prichard, Jacques Rougeau, Nikolai Volkoff, Lanny Poffo, Dallas Page, Jesse Barr, Boris Zhukov, Ivan Koloff, Bill Anderson, Marty Jannetty, Bobby Fulton, Tom Brandi, King Kong Bundy, Barry Darsow, Steve Cox, Ken Resnick, Bill Apter, & more!
Immediately after finishing our first draft, we called another “wrestling bad-ass” to see if we could put the two together. It turned out, this guy was one of “the biggest Kamala fans ever, as a kid.”
With that being said, STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN was also nice enough to let Kamala be a guest on his Aug 19, 2014 podcast. Kamala was then able to promote his book and launch his Kickstarter campaign first on one of the best wrestling talk shows out there today, “THE STEVE AUSTIN SHOW.”
Two days after the dust settled from Austin’s interview, ROWDY RODDY PIPER chatted with Kamala for the September 8th, 2014 airing of his show. They worked together in the early 80s WWF and had a lot to talk about. James said this was his favorite interview ever, and Piper said, “I really learned a life lesson about the positive attitude that James Harris has about life.” You will find the interview here at “PIPER’S PIT“
If you are looking for a great wrestling with loads of behind-the-scenes stories, filled with humor and wit, look no further! “Kamala Speaks” is just what you are looking for. You can buy it using the form to the right and it will print around the middle of January.
